In 1985 Candida embarked on a ten-year writing project, interviewing a total of 36 Australian writers for her Yacker – Australian Writers Talk About Their Work series, based on the Paris Review interviews with writers.

Candida conducted interviews with writers such as Peter Carey, David Malouf, Helen Garner and a young Kate Grenville.  She also received an Australia Council grant to travel to the UK and to the US where she interviewed poet Peter Porter and writer Randolph Stowe and in New York, Sumner Locke Elliott.

The first volume was published in 1986 to critical acclaim, and also sold in the UK.  Subsequent volumes were published in 1989 and 1990, creating a valuable and on-going research resource for students of Australian literature.  The original manuscripts are held by the state library of New South Wales.

Candida’s first novel, Women and Horses, was a runner-up in the prestigious Vogel Australian Literary Awards in 1990.  It was published in Australia as a hard-back Picador and in the U.S by St. Martin’s Press.

In 1994 Candida’s book of prize-winning short stories, The Powerful Owl, was published by Picador.  The title story was runner-up in the Canberra Times short story competition and has been included in numerous anthologies.

In the past ten years Candida has published several anthologies, articles, another novel, The Hiddenwhich is being adapted for the screen and was published as a Knopf hardback in 2000.
